  • Premium paid to the makers for first time!

    21 March 2018. Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. When making awesome shoes to make you look at your best and walk confidently in style anytime anywhere, we want to make sure enjoying FAIR FRANKs benefit both you and the makers of your shoes! We set up our workers’ premium fund to make sure part of our sales go directly back to the communities where they are made, to the skilled artisans and employees at our partner Hafde just outside Addis Ababa in Ethiopia.

    What is it? The FAIR FRANK Workers’ Premium Fund
    How was it set-up? Agreed between FAIR FRANK and Hafde’s owners and worker representatives.
    How much is it? Every pair of FAIR FRANK shoes sold contribute 5 EUR to the fund.
    How it is allocated? 60% of it is directly paid out equally to all makers of your shoes as a cash bonus, while 40% of it is paid towards development projects to benefit the makers’ communities. (As of March 2018, FAIR FRANK has not chosen the projects to pay this part of the fund to, and therefore will contribute this part during the next meeting planned for September 2018.)
    How often is it paid out? Every 6 months.

    Together with the owners and worker representatives from Hafde we agreed to set-up the FAIR FRANK Workers’ Premium Fund. Part of it is paid out as a cash bonus on top of the makers’ regular salaries, while we contribute 40% of it to development projects benefiting their communities.

    Last week, on Wednesday 21 March 2018, we were in Ethiopia and paid out the first part of this fund as a cash bonus to all the artisans involved in making your shoes at Hafde. They not only include the artisans crafting your shoes, but also the makers of the leather itself which is also made at Hafde.
